Cargille Brix LiquidsA Brix degree is a measure of the density or concentration of sugar solutions. There are two different Brix scales: A. Degrees Brix equals percent by weight of sucrose in the solution and is related empirically to the refractive index. We work with the first scale at 20°C. Cargille Laboratories can supply liquids to cover the entire Brix range from 0 - 85 % sucrose solution @ 20°C ( BRIX ). The Brix chart published in ICUMSA was used as the basis of our calculations. Our Brix Liquids are ideal for calibrating your brix refractometers. Unlike water based sucrose solutions, our liquids are extremely stable, which means that one brix liquid can be used as a calibration fluid for years. It is advisable to select a Cargille oil ( standard ) close to the Brix value of your samples or select a liquid higher and lower to surround your Brix working area. Refractometer manufacturers advise zeroing out with distilled water as zero Brix. Cargille Labs also carries Refractive Index Certified Water. Relationship of Brix Tolerance to Refractive Index ToleranceValues on the following brix tolerance chart are based on the ICUMSA Chart for % Brix ( Sucrose ) at 5893 angstroms at 20 °C. In between brix values will have proportionately in between brix tolerances.
