Specialized Optical Coupling ( Index Matching ) Liquids

( Refractive Index Matching Liquids for Fused Silica, BK 7 Glass and Acrylic )

Cargille Fused Silica Matching Liquids

The Fused Silica Matching Liquids, Code 50350 and 06350, precisely match the refractive index and very closely match the dispersion of fused silica.

Both Codes are formulated to match the refractive index of fused silica at the HeNe wavelength (6328 angstroms); other custom formulations will match the refractive index of fused silica at other wavelengths.

Colorless, odorless, and non-toxic. Soluble in naphtha, ethyl ether, xylene, and methylene chloride, the Fused Silica Matching Liquids are partly soluble in acetone and insoluble in water and ethanol. The liquids have a known incompatibility with Latex rubber.

Differences between the two liquids:

Code Viscosity (cSt at 25 °C) Cloud Point (°C)
50350 19 < 1
06350 80 none

In development as well as field applications, Fused Silica Matching Immersion Liquids will be very useful to those working with fused silica optical fibers, preforms, windows, and other optical components.

Cargille BK 7 Matching Liquid

Cargille's BK 7 glass Matching Liquid matches the refractive index, nD = 1.5167, and matches the refractive dispersion of BK 7 glass better than any other liquid. The liquid has long term stability. It has moderately high viscosity ( similar to syrup and Cargille Immersion Oil Type B ) which helps to hold coupled components together during manipulation and assembly. It can be blended with low viscosity Immersion Liquid Code 1160 for intermediate viscosities. Please note that blending with other liquids will alter the blended liquid's dispersion from an ideal match with BK 7 glass.

19586 81520 $55.75 $124.00 $283.50

Cargille Acrylic Matching Liquid

Cargille's Acrylic Matching Liquid nD = 1.4917 amazingly matches the refractive index and the refractive dispersion of PMMA. It has very long term stability and high viscosity ( similar to honey ) which helps hold components in place with little or no problem with entrapped air. It can be blended with Cargille Immersion Liquid Code 5040 to lower the viscosity. Blending the liquid will alter the blended liquid's dispersion from an ideal match with PMMA.
