Product & Technical Questions

Are all of your products listed on the site?

Most of our products are currently on the site; however, we do make a large number of custom liquids and other products. To inquire about products not on the site, please contact us via our contact form and select technical question in the topic menu.

Are all of your liquids NIST traceable?
Yes, all of our liquids are NIST traceable; however, if you need a Letter of Certification stating this information, you must purchase it along with your liquid. The letter will describe the specifications of the liquid and its shelf life and certify NIST traceability.

Is there a shelf life for any Cargille Products?
Yes. The following table provides the shelf life of the most commonly asked-about products. For any other products please contact us via our contact form and select technical question in the topic menu.

Shelf Life is calculated from the date of manufacture. This date can be found on the bottle as the Lot Number.

**Beginning January 2024, all Cargille Lot Numbers will be in the format of Month/Day/Year (MMDDYY) with the exception of Refractive Index Liquids, which already have a format of Month/Year (MMYY). This date is the date of manufacture. For prior lot numbers that end in values greater than 70, subtract 76 from this number to get the actual year of manufacture.

For example, for a lot of 021289, the date of manufacture will be February 12, 2013. If this liquid has a 5-year shelf life and it was opened 10 months after its manufacture date, then it will have 2 years and 1 month left on its shelf life because 5 years – 10 months = 4 years and 2 months. 4 years and 2 month divide by 2 is 2 years and 1 month.

I can’t find any information on dispersion or temperature for your refractive index liquids.

Due to the number of liquids we carry, we do not have all of the information for every liquid on the site. If you are interested in viscosity, density, temperature, or any other characteristic of our liquids, please contact us via our contact form and select technical question in the topic menu.

I’m trying to match the refractive index of a specific glass. What should I use?

Any of our Standard Series Liquids can be used to match the refractive index of nearly all glasses and plastics. For larger quantities, or a more exact refractive index match to your material, you should use one of our custom blended Immersion or Laser Liquids. We regularly manufacture liquids to match the refractive index of BK7, SF10, BaK, Fused Silica, PMMA, Polycarbonate, Polystyrene, and other glasses and plastics. Because many of our liquids are custom blended, we can (most likely) match the refractive index of your material at any wavelength and temperature. Please contact us via our contact form and select technical question in the topic menu. We can help you determine which liquid is best for your application.
